The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has launched a new online platform that will allow sports betting operators to report suspicious betting activities.

Launched by the MGA’s Sports Integrity Unit, the Suspicious Betting Reporting Mechanism (SBRM) will allow operators to report such activities via a specific portal to the MGA.

Its launch forms part of the MGA’s 2020 roadmap, in which the regulator has expanded its monitoring of online gambling activities.

The new platform will officially be made available to all licenced operators from 1 January 2021, but has been introduced now in order to prepare for a smoother transition ahead of the official launch.

Established in August 2019, the Sports Integrity Unit aims to gather information relating to suspicious betting.

Its SBRM platform comes after its Consultation Paper on Suspicious Betting Reporting Requirements & Other Sports Integrity Matters, which was published in May earlier this year.

The paper was praised by the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) in July.

The MGA has strengthened its sports integrity network in 2020, having signed data-sharing partnerships with several national and international sporting bodies.

They include the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Swedish Football Association (SvFF), the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association (WPBSA), and the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA).
