Mobile sports wagering is in the process of being regulated in the state of New York, following Governor Andrew Cuomo's famous U-turn during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cuomo, who is currently facing significant problems outside of sports betting, was previously opposed to mobile and online activity. An undoubted increase in the state's budget deficit during the pandemic, however, was at least one factor in him changing his mind.

Senator Joseph Addabbo has been a keen advocate of mobile sports wagering in New York for some time, and was optimistic when speaking on the GI Huddle after Cuomo's U-turn in January.

Applicants for the New York licence include operator giant Bet365, supplier Kambi and theScore Bet. Several others are thereby applicants by virtue of being partnered with these companies.
