Sportradar granted temporary licence in Massachusetts

Sportradar has been granted a temporary sports wagering vendor licence from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. This means the sports-based sports technology company now holds 44 licences to operate within North America.

These 44 jurisdictions are split between US states, tribal reservations, Canada and other territories. It provides its services to a wide range of operators in these regions, for instance, the Caribbean Premier League, which it announced an official data partnership with in September 2022.

Massachusetts, meanwhile, is a US market that many operators have expressed interest in recently, as it legalises in-person sports betting (today) on 31 January.

This may be a welcome shot in the arm to the Bay State, which reported a disappointing $92m in revenue from its three-land-based hotels in August 2022. Only MGM Springfield reported a monthly increase, while Encore Boston Harbor’s revenue fell 10% monthly and Plainridge Park’s numbers dipped slightly year-on-year also.

These three casinos offer only traditional casino games at present, such as roulette, baccarat, poker and so on. The introduction of in-person sports revenue is expected to greatly bolster the purse strings of these three casinos, with Massachusetts having some of the most famed US sports teams – such as the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

Sportradar has been making plenty of inroads into the US market in recent months, ffor instance, signing a multi-year partnership with XLMedia. Using Sportradar’s real-time sports data products, XLMedia will be able to distribute its digital brand across multiple US states.

These brands include Sports Betting Dime, Saturday Tradition and Saturday Down South.
