Jackpocket, a lottery app that enables players to play Powerball, Mega Millions, Lucky for Life, Pick 3 and Pick 5, has launched in the state of Nebraska.

Players can buy tickets from official lottery retailers through the third-party lottery app, without the need to visit a retail location in person.

Instead, they can make purchases from a mobile phone, tablet or computer and receive notifications about any winnings.

While the app can award winnings up to $500, further steps will need to be taken if the total amount exceeds this.

On this occasion, Jackpocket will ensure the player is transferred their ticket, so that they can go through the proper channels and redeem it through the Nebraska Lottery.

This marks the 16th state that Jackpocket has gone live in, with the app recently going live in New Mexico, Idaho and Montana.

Peter Sullivan, Founder and CEO of Jackpocket, said: "The Jackpocket team is excited to offer Nebraskans – long-time lottery players and new players alike – an easy and accessible way to play.

"We're committed to making the lottery safe, convenient and fun.

“With 29 lottery millionaires and counting on Jackpocket, we're looking forward to meeting our first big winner in the Cornhusker State!"

At the time of writing, Jackpocket is live in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Washington DC and West Virginia.

A total of $300m has been awarded in lottery winnings by Jackpocket, with 29 individuals having won at least $1m.

This isn't the only development in the gambling world of the Cornhusker state, with Caesars recently announcing plans for its first Nebraska property
