Lewis Hamilton might be the traditional hometown hero when it comes to Silverstone, but George Russell and Lando Norris have found great favour with fans over the past few years.
According to data from Entain, the British GP accounted for the largest total of bets placed on one race out of the entire schedule, with 7.3% of all online bets.
During this race, Hamilton took 27.3% of wagers, and it’s easy to see why... not only is he racing on his home turf, but he’s also the seven-time world champion.
When looking at data taken specifically from the UK bettors, 33.8% backed Hamilton to win and take his place on the podium.
Dominic Grounsell, CCO at Entain, said: "The 2022 F1 season was packed with exhilarating races.
“Silverstone's position as the most exciting race is a testament to the unique blend of history, intensity, and passionate support that makes the British Grand Prix an unmissable event for fans worldwide.”
Of course, it can’t always revolve around Great Britain, which is why Entain released statistics for some of the other races too.
Despite Charles Leclerc racing at the Monaco street circuit, bettors weren’t feeling as patriotic and Verstappen was the driver to receive the most online bets, for a total of 21.3%.
That’s not the only race where Verstappen took the top betting spot either, during the Italian Grand Prix, 26.8% of fans also backed the Dutch-Belgian driver to win.
A few weeks ago, Entain announced that it would acquire STS, the Polish sportsbook operator, for £750m ($946.3m).
