The Football Association (FA) issued more disciplinary decisions against players in October, following a trend of international illegal match betting.

The FA gave out four disciplinary decisions in October alone, which marks an increase compared to previous months.

In September, there were three similar actions towards the end of the month, but in July and August, there were no incidents whatsoever.

In the October reports, the first incident of misconduct is attributed to Curtis Burrows, a player for Belper Town FC.

It was found that Burrows placed 1,005 bets on matches between 13 March 2015 to 10 June 2023.

He has been given a three-month suspension for playing and a £200 fine.

The next player, Liam Dolman of Tamworth FC, had allegedly bet 1,666 times between 22 December 2018 to 11 February 2023, although he has not yet responded.

Lee Tomlin of Harborough Town FC denied the charges that he had bet 220 times between 21 November 2010 and 24 May 2014; and a personal hearing will be held in the future.

Finally, David Northfield of Biggleswade FC admitted the charge of placing bets between 5 January 2018 to 04 August 2023 and received a £750 fine.

Of course, the Italian National players have dominated headlines recently, following an investigation that found several of them had been placing illegal bets on matches.

Most notably, Sandro Tonali has been banned globally for at least 10 months, which will see him unable to play in the 2024 Euros and Newcastle United’s Premier League season.
