Four members of the Gaming Technologies Association (GTA) have been conditionally approved for an expanded New South Wales (NSW) cashless gaming trial, which will involve nearly 4,500 electronic machines.

In September, it was announced that Liquor & Gaming New South Wales would oversee trials of cashless gaming technology, hosted by the Independent Panel on Gaming Reform.

The aim of the research was to find out changes in player attitudes and behaviours due to the use of the technology, the length of sessions, and the frequency and the level of harm experienced, as well as areas for improvement to reduce gambling harm.

With regards to this latest news, it is said that expectations were exceeded over the number of providers and venues volunteering to be part of the cashless gaming trial.

Aristocrat, eBet, IGT and Light & Wonder have been conditionally approved for the trial next year, with approval being granted on the condition that the stringent cybersecurity requirements are met.

Last year in October, technology developed by Aristocrat Gaming was installed on 36 machines at Wests Newcastle as part of trials.

In total, 28 venues have been conditionally approved for the trial, which includes 20 clubs and eight hotels, with a mix of smaller and larger venues.

CEO of GTA, Jinesh Patel, said: “The focus for GTA is to ensure a fair and balanced path for gaming technology in Australia. The trial is complex and costly but we are committed to finding a path forward and working with the NSW Government.

“GTA is proud to contribute to the NSW Panel and its members are committed to seeing Australia’s first statewide trial succeed.”
