Charles Mizzi has been appointed CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) following a decision made by The Board of Governors. He will succeed Carl Brincat.

Starting in the New Year, Mizzi will be shadowing Brincat before his departure from the role, with Mizzi saying he is “honoured to have been given the opportunity to lead the Authority.”

Mizzi comes to the role following five years as CEO of the Residency Malta Agency. His previous roles have been in fields surrounding finance, investment and Maltese business, having had his first notable role back in 1997 as a Senior Marketing Coordinator for the Bank of Valletta, where he served for nearly 11 years.

“I am keen to build on past successes and together with the team under the guidance of the Minister responsible and the Board of Governors, to strategically steer the Authority forward so that Malta’s already robust position in the field may be further strengthened while delivering value to all stakeholders,” Mizzi concluded.

Silvio Schembri, the Minister for the Economy, EU Funds and Lands, noted this experience as part of the reasoning behind Mizzi’s landing of the new role. “Charles Mizzi is undoubtedly the right candidate to continue building on what the MGA has achieved so far and lead his excellent colleagues within the Authority towards further future success.”

It is the role of the Authority to regulate gaming in Malta, overseeing licences and legality in the region. Recent examples include the Authority's cancellation of SFJL Holding's authorisation and canceling AMGO iGaming Malta's licence
