Paddy Power has announced it has paid out early on bets made regarding Sheffield United being relegated from the Premier League this season.

Last night, the Blades were well beaten by title contenders Arsenal, 6-0, at Bramall Lane, leaving the team rock bottom of the Premier League and 11 points off 17th place Nottingham Forest, with Chris Wilder’s side left with 11 games to maintain their status in England’s top tier.

If things were not already bleak enough for Sheffield United, the team has scored the fewest number of goals in the league (22) and conceded the most (72), and last night’s result means it became the first team in English football history to concede five goals in four consecutive home games across all competitions.

Given the current state of affairs for the Blades, Paddy Power has decided to payout early on bets placed on them to be relegated from the Premier League, including for both online and retail.

In a tweet sent out on X (formerly Twitter) from its account, the sports betting operator wrote:

“EARLY PAYOUT

“We all know Sheffield United are on their way back to the Championship.

“After tonight's mauling, we thought we'd save everyone the bother of waiting...

“So, we've paid out early on them TO BE RELEGATED! SINGLES & MULTIPLES. ONLINE & RETAIL.”

In other sports betting news today, FanDuel has entered into a partnership with the Carolina Panthers ahead of North Carolina’s sports betting launch on March 11.
