Key points:
- Paddy Power is now paying out on anytime goalscorer bets for Isak from Sweden’s game last night
- The decision comes after VAR controversially ruled out a goal from the Newcastle star in the first half
Sweden was a comfortable winner in its Nations League clash against Azerbaijan last night, winning 6-0. However, if it had not been for a VAR decision it could have had even more.
The home side was cruising 3-0 in the first half when Viktor Gyökeres played through Alexander Isak, who managed to find the net and seemingly make it 4-0 before the break. This wasn’t the case, though, as VAR ruled out the goal, despite Isak being clearly onside based on replays.
As a result of this, Paddy Power has announced it will be paying out on anyone who had Isak as an anytime goalscorer during the game.
In a post on Paddy Power’s X (formerly Twitter) account it wrote: “JUSTICE PAYOUT! After an offside decision even the PGMOL would be ashamed of, we're paying out on all anytime goalscorer bets on Alexander Isak vs Azerbaijan. Applies to all singles, bet builders and multis. No max bet, paid as cash. T&Cs apply.”
Good to know: Paddy Power's owner, Flutter Entertainment, this week appointed Kevin Harrington as its new UK & Ireland CEO
In the past, the operator hasn’t been afraid to undertake similar initiatives.
Last season, it paid out early on Sheffield United to be relegated from the Premier League in March after a 6-0 drubbing by Arsenal left the Blades 11 points off 17th place.
Meanwhile, after only the opening match of the Scottish Premiership this season, Paddy Power paid out early on Celtic to win the league after the current champions started their campaign with a win, while their bitter rivals Rangers drew 0-0 with Hearts.
