- Advisory and Lived Experience Panels aim to provide expert and personal insights to shape policy evaluation

- Research will involve extensive stakeholder engagement and multi-method data collection

The Gambling Commission has provided an update on its ongoing efforts to evaluate the outcomes of the Gambling Act Review, as part of a collaborative initiative with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Since the publication of the 2023 Gambling Act Review White Paper, this work has focused on implementing policy changes and designing evaluation frameworks.

Key to this initiative is a partnership with the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), announced in March 2024. The collaboration aims to monitor the impacts of the new policies outlined in the White Paper.

DCMS has now released details of the evaluation approach, including the questions guiding the research, data collection strategies and governance structures.

This evaluation seeks to ensure that lessons learned inform future gambling regulation and policy development, aligning with the Gambling Commission’s Corporate Strategy for 2024-2027.

Good to know: Stakeholder engagement remains central to the process; the Gambling Commission has involved consumers, operators and other groups through consultations, surveys and interviews

Existing advisory groups and the Industry Forum are being utilised to encourage participation and refine data collection methods.

Additionally, a dedicated Advisory Group of experts in gambling policy and regulation and a Lived Experience Panel are providing insights into the measures implemented.

Fieldwork is expected to begin soon, with more updates planned for 2025.
