- Advertising must mention the negative impact of gambling

The Parliament of Moldova has voted to lift certain restrictions on gambling advertising in the country.

This bill was introduced by Radu Marian and Dorian Istratii, who referenced that in most European countries gambling advertising is allowed.

Advertising and audiovisual programs sponsored by legal entities that organise and conduct low-social risk gambling will be allowed to do so between the hours of 10pm and 7am.

Any advertising that is conducted must have some sort of mention about the negative impact of gambling, constituting at least 20% of the time period of the advert or 20% of the surface area of an advert space.

Meanwhile, establishments that sell games like lotteries will be able to display adverts for them, but these must be no bigger than A4 in size.

Good to know: Since 1 January 2022, gambling advertising was completely prohibited in Moldova

With regards to the advertising of low-social risk gambling in a public or private periodical, this must not exceed 15% of the space of an issue of the edition.

It is also mentioned that resources allocated to lottery and sports betting advertising will go towards supporting sports and social activities in Moldova, helping in the creation of local media content.

In related news this week, an amendment brought forward by Lord Foster of Bath in the UK Parliament, with regards to the Football Governance Bill, which sought for football clubs to consult fans on gambling advertising and sponsorship, was withdrawn.
