Crypto operator Stake has announced the acquisition of Denmark-based operator MonicoPlay, as the company seeks further expansion on the European continent.

Indeed, this move remains subject to regulatory approval from the Danish Gambling Authority Spillemyndigheden. However, the successful recent development of MonicoPlay’s VinderCasino brand in Denmark has made the company a prime target for Stake, as the operator looks to expand its presence in Northern Europe.

Currently, the Danish market is in a transitional period, as it was reported by the in May 2024 that the nation’s combined gambling GGR for betting, gaming machines, land-based casino and online casino decreased by 6.9% to DKK 595m ($81.49m) year-on-year. This development was followed swiftly by the introduction of a new licensing system which has now come into play, as of 1 January 2025.

For Stake, however, this latest foray into the nation’s landscape comes as the latest move in period of global expansion which has seen the operator draw an enhanced focus on LatAm in recent months, particularly Brazil. After appointing a new Brazil Country Manager following its licencing approval at the start of 2025, Stake has now gone on to broker new partnerships with both TGLab and Kambi in the market.

Good to know: In July 2024, Stake also entered the Italian market via the acquisition of Idealbet from Octavian Group

Commenting on this latest acquisition announcement, Brais Pena, Chief Strategy Officer at Easygo, Stake’s parent company, said: “This acquisition will give us access to another high-value, regulated market with exciting growth opportunities. We have already expanded our local presence in Latam and Southern Europe, so making our mark in the north was the clear next step.”

“We are demonstrating our clear ability to be successful in highly regulated markets, providing us with a blueprint for entry in other territories where compliance is crucial.

"The team behind MocinoPlay have done an impressive job in growing the VinderCasino brand in the Danish market and we look forward to integrating Stake’s winning formula to super-charge this growth and reach even more Danish players.”
