Sports wagering: Online

Figures posted by the Kansas Lottery highlight that $252.8m of the state’s overall wagering handle was accounted for by online betting, with the remaining $8.4m coming from Kansas’ four retail locations.

Year-over-year, these numbers represent a 1.5% increase for online wagering. However, when compared to figures from the month prior, online dropped by 9.9%. These latest results from December bring Kansas’ online wagering handle for the fiscal year to date up to $1.29bn.

Sports wagering: Retail

Good to know: Missouri’s regulator predicts sports betting legislation by this summer, sparking concerns about how it may affect Kansas’ market

Regarding retail, it was ESPN Bet’s Hollywood location which led the way, accounting for $6.1m of the overall $8.4m wagered in the state during December. Overall, Kansas’ total retail wagering handle represented a 23.2% decline year-over-year, juxtaposing the state’s online results.

Further, in comparison to the month prior, retail wagering handle also dropped by 34.5%. This is reflective of the explosion in online sports wagering in the United States that has come about since the overturning of PASPA in 2018. Now, figures from December 2024 bring the total retail wagering handle for the fiscal year to date in Kansas up to $46.3m.
