The Swedish Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen, has published its findings from a survey conducted late last year, looking into the gambling habits of Swedes.
This survey, known as the Public Opinion Survey, is conducted on an annual basis, and was aided by research company Enkätfabriken.
There were just over 1,600 respondents to the survey which took place in November 2024. The findings showed that 71% of Swedes had gambled for money in the past 12 months, with 33% of players playing every week.
Looking on an individual basis, lotteries and number games remained the most popular form of gambling, with 84% of those surveyed saying they had participated in lotteries and number games.

When asking if gambling companies are taking responsibility for gambling problems, 16% answered yes absolutely, 55% say yes to some extent and 29% said no, not at all.

Another key finding from the data was the motivations behind why people participate in gambling. The most common reason, at 69%, was for fun, entertainment, followed by to winning big at 40%.
