KSA has intensified its efforts to combat illegal gambling apps, successfully removing 20 applications from app stores since the beginning of 2025.
Key points:
– KSA has removed 20 illegal gambling apps from app stores since January 2025
– Many of these apps redirect users to unlicensed websites and falsely use logos of legal operators
– The regulator urges consumers and industry stakeholders to report suspicious content to aid enforcement efforts
The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has ramped up its efforts to combat the growing issue of illegal gambling apps, with 20 such apps removed from app stores since the beginning of 2025.
These apps, often disguised as innocuous games or advertised through social media platforms, frequently redirect users to unlicensed gambling websites.
In some cases, they falsely display the branding of legitimate operators, such as the misuse of the Holland Casino logo.
Many of these apps are also accessible to minors, raising additional concerns about youth exposure to gambling content.
According to the KSA, a common tactic involves promoting games like variations of “Plinko,” which upon download, link users to illicit gambling platforms.
The regulator stresses the importance of consumer involvement, urging individuals to report suspicious apps – especially by identifying the app names through the promotional links.
Good to know: Reports can be submitted via the KSA’s complaint channels, including Meld Vals Spel, an industry platform designed to flag illegal gambling content
These latest actions align with the KSA’s broader 2025 strategy, which emphasises consumer protection and the crackdown on unlicensed operations.
In addition to targeting mobile apps, the KSA is also working with app stores to ensure reported illegal content is swiftly removed.
