IBIA reports 63 suspicious betting activity alerts during Q1

Key points:

– The IBIA has reported 63 instances of suspicious betting activity during Q1

– This figure represents a rise year-on-year, but a fall from the 65 reported in Q4 2024

– Football and tennis accounted for 40 of the 63 alerts

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) reported a total of 63 alerts of suspicious betting activity to the relevant authorities during the first quarter of 2025 – six more than the 57 reported during the same period the year prior.

Indeed, this latest figure represents a 3% fall quarter-on-quarter from the 65 alerts reported in Q4 2024. Overall, data is pooled by the IBIA from a total of 23 countries across five continents – with the organisation taking into account six different sports.

In more detail, 40 of the 63 alerts reported in Q1 came from football or tennis – with the two sports accounting for 64% of activity. Table tennis reports amounted to a total of nine – a sharp decrease of 53% from the 21 reports submitted in Q4 2024. Further, 51% of the total reported alerts submitted by the association came from either the North American or European markets, which combined to account for 32 alerts – down from the 45 alerts measured in the final quarter of last year.

Speaking on these latest results, IBIA CEO Khalid Ali said: “The first quarter of 2025 was relatively consistent with the previous quarter and the comparable period last year. Football and tennis remain the most reported sports, albeit their combined Q1 2025 number was down 14% in Q4 2024.

“This quarter-on-quarter reduction was primarily due to a fall in tennis alerts, which have shown a welcome reduction in recent years. The Q4 2024 increase in table tennis alerts has not continued into Q1 2025 and has fallen back to previous levels. IBIA has taken increased precautions regarding this sport and agreed a number of new integrity partnerships and protocols in Q1 with the aim of detecting and sanctioning corrupt betting activity.”

Good to know: The IBIA’s recently released integrity report highlighted a total of 219 suspicious betting alerts across the FY 2024 period

This latest update from the association follows the announcement of a new partnership being drawn up between the IBIA and EstralaBet – as part of a wider initiative to strengthen integrity measures within the Brazilian market. More recently, the IBIA also welcomed Hard Rock Digital to its platform.
