KSA imposes penalty on Helmond caterer for illegal gambling kiosks
Two gambling kiosks with illegal gaming software where found and seized from the catering establishment in November 2024.
Key points:
– The KSA has ordered a catering establishment in Helmond to pay a fine of up to €20,000 for holding two illegal gaming kiosks
– The illegal sports betting kiosks were discovered and seized in November 2024
The Dutch gaming authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has ordered a penalty against a catering establishment in Helmond for possession of two illegal gaming machines.
The machines, which contained illegal gaming software, were found and seized in November 2024. The penalty comes to €10,000 ($11,339) per violation, up to a total of €20,000. These devices can be used to bet on sports events via an internet connection and the aforementioned illegal software; a system that is prohibited in the Netherlands.
The KSA went on to state that, as these machines are illegal, they also pose an enhanced risk to players, due to their lack of regulation. Fair play, responsible gaming and age verification can not be implemented, and these systems do not contribute taxes, which can increase associations and use within money laundering operations.
Good to know: The KSA has recently tightened its enforcement of sports sponsorship bans. From 1 July 2025, all athlete, team, shirt and other promotions will be banned
The KSA has been hard at work in recent weeks, ordering several fines to operators working outside of local regulations. Earlier in May, Betca was ordered to remove its mobile game ads from the game Tiny Tower, after they were found to be in violation of advertising regulations.
