Betsson pulls out of planned Holland Gaming Technology acquisition

Operator Betsson AB’s previously agreed deal to acquire Holland Gaming Technology Ltd and Holland Power Gaming B.V. has fallen through, with the company stating that it wishes to explore other business options.
The acquisition was initially announced in February 2024 and – prior to Betsson’s most recent decision – remained subject to regulatory approval by the Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA). Subsequently, the organisation was able to withdraw from the transaction as the KSA had not issued a decision on the move. Now, a total of €26.7m ($30.4m) is set to be repaid to Betsson AB – who will return the rights to Holland Gaming Ltd and Holland Power Gaming B.V. to the original owners.
Indeed, this latest announcement comes within 24 hours of Betsson AB being subject to an SEK 6.5m ($680,000) fine from the Swedish regulator – Spelinspektionen – for AML compliance failures pertaining to customer funding source checks. Also recently, the operator released its full Q1 2025 financial results, highlighting a revenue of €293.7m for the period.

Elsewhere, during Q1, Betsson AB made its entry into the newly regulated Brazilian market obtaining a licence from the SPA in the wake of legislative changes that came into effect in the new year.
