Spelinspektionen to begin supervision of Polarlotto telephone sales
Supervision will assess if and how Polarlotto complies with the Gambling Act.
Key points:
– Swedish gaming regulator Spelinspektionen will begin supervision of Polarlotto to assess its compliance with the Gambling Act
– Polarlotto is licensed to operate games on miljardlotteriet.se, polarlotto.com and polarlotto.se
Swedish gaming regulator Spelinspektionen has begun supervision of Polarlotto, to assess whether its telephone sales comply with Chapter 14, Sections 18 and 19 of the Gambling Act.
Alongside this, the regulator will also assess whether Polarlotto complies with credit ban regulation, and if it meets the required level of player identification practices, which can be done via comparison against Spelpaus.se when registering players.
Upon completion of the review, Spelinspektionen will publish the results and apply intervention if it is deemed necessary. A link to the decision will also be accessible.
Good to know: Polarlotto operates games on miljardlotteriet.se, polarlotto.com and polarlotto.se
Earlier this month, Spelinspektionen delivered SEK 19m ($2m) in fines to Betsson, Snabbare and TSG Interactive, with the operators charged SEK 6.5m, SEK 5.5m and SEK 7m respectively. The fines also came with official warnings regarding anti-money laundering failings, with Spelinspektionen commenting that the operators had not been gathering enough information on the origins of player funds.
Betsson, for example, had one customer deposit SEK 133,584 in a month across 181 occasions, despite only being 20 years old. In another instance, a 23-year-old deposited SEK 271,699 within the space of four months, but despite this, Betsson removed the player’s review flag ‘to avoid disturbing the customer.’
In May, the regulator also fined Kindred subsidiary Spooniker SEK 10m for customer due diligence failings. Much like Betsson, Spooniker was not gathering sufficient evidence on the source of player funding, raising anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism funding concerns.
