Key points:

– BetMGM and Tappp have launched the first sportsbook-branded gift cards in Canada

– The program covers over 2,500 retail locations across Ontario

– The launch aims to support BetMGM’s ongoing North American expansion strategy

BetMGM has become the first sportsbook operator to launch branded gift cards in Canada, announcing the distribution of BetMGM gift cards across 2,500 retail locations throughout Ontario via a partnership with payment solutions provider Tappp.

The gift card program enables BetMGM customers to fund their iGaming and sportsbook accounts through secure PIN redemption.

Commenting on the development, Sandy Agarwal, Founder and CEO of Tappp, stated: “We are constantly seeking new ways to increase the accessibility of our clients’ gift card products.

“Securing the distribution of BetMGM gift cards in Ontario is another exciting first for us as it opens up an entirely new country for BetMGM and its retail customers.”

Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer at BetMGM, added: “Ontario has proved to be a robust market for sports betting and iGaming with BetMGM as one of the top-tier operators.

“We are proud to be the first to debut sportsbook-branded gift cards and offer players another convenient way to fund their accounts.”

Good to know: According to the company, BetMGM gift cards have achieved a 99% redemption rate in the US, where the program originally launched in September 2021

The US gift card program has experienced rapid distribution expansion across retailers in 15 states since its launch. The Canadian implementation follows this established model while adapting to local regulatory requirements, including a $250 weekly deposit limit for players using prepaid cards.

BetMGM’s expansion in Canada builds on its broader North American growth strategy, which has included a range of recent content partnerships with game suppliers.

Last month, for example, the company launched casino games from providers such as RubyPlay and Octoplay in New Jersey.
