PAGCOR provides PHP 30m in relief following monsoon floods
A mixture of food and non-food packs have been distributed to those who need it most following major flooding and landslides.
Key points:
– PAGCOR has delivered over 33,000 relief packs to people affected by recent severe weather events across Manila
– Monsoon season in the region tends to run from late June until the end of October
– More than five million people have been affected so far
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has contributed PHP 30m ($520,000) in relief to communities affected by recent floods brought on by the monsoon season across Manila.
A total of 33,250 packs were sent out to local government units for distribution, which consisted of 17,000 food packs and 16,250 non-food packs.
The main areas that received aid from PAGCOR included the City of Manila, Quezon City, Marikina, Parañaque, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Bulacan, Occidental Mindoro, La Union and Laguna.

PAGCOR employees were involved with physically loading the packs onto vans, while the Armed Forces of the Philippines were responsible for delivering the packs to the affected areas.
Alejando Tengco, PAGCOR Chairman and CEO, said: “As millions in Metro Manila and other provinces suffer from torrential rains and floods triggered by the southwest monsoon and tropical storms, we quickly mobilised our relief operations teams.
“As the government’s partner in nation-building, we are morally- and duty-bound to come to the aid of Filipinos in times of need, and that includes being one of the first responders when calamities strike.”
Good to know: The latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council indicates that over five million people have been affected by the recent severe weather events in the country
PAGCOR has strengthened its ties with the military recently, donating PHP 600m to a new centre and medical vehicles to assist with improved patient transport services.
The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Partylist and Nanay Partylist also received assistance and support from PAGCOR during this time.
The ACT organisation campaigns for better conditions for teachers, such as higher wages and lowering the retirement age for teachers; while the Nanay Partylist advocates for mothers.
