Key points:

– PAGCOR has provided PHP 67m ($1.14m) worth of assistance to over 74,000 families

– Aid includes food, hygiene kits and sleeping supplies

– Support extended to both local government units and legislators’ offices

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has released PHP 67m worth of aid to communities affected by successive typhoons and flooding across Luzon throughout July, according to a press statement from the agency.

More than 74,000 families across Metro Manila and various provinces received essential supplies, including rice, canned food, noodles, coffee, hygiene kits and sleeping mats. PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco said the assistance was part of the agency’s commitment to supporting disaster-hit communities through both immediate and post-storm recovery efforts.

In the final week of July, PAGCOR deployed 41,000 relief packs amounting to PHP 37m across Zambales, Bulacan, Laguna, Mindoro, Rizal, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Olongapo City. Earlier in the month, while heavy rains were ongoing, the agency had already dispatched PHP 30.41m worth of supplies to Manila, Quezon City, Marikina, Parañaque, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Bulacan, Occidental Mindoro, La Union and Laguna.

Good to know: Relief supplies were also channelled through Tingog Partylist and the office of Senator Lito Lapid for distribution to their respective constituents

“Even after the rains have stopped and the floodwaters have subsided, we continue to provide support to affected communities because we understand that recovery takes time,” said Mr Tengco.

Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino confirmed that 2,000 relief packs were delivered to the city on 31 July, praising the agency’s timely intervention and public service focus.
