Pakistan: Ducky Bhai’s remand extended by four days in gambling app promotion case

Key points:

– Lahore court grants National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) extended custody

– Case involves promotion of illegal gambling apps through social media

– Charges include electronic fraud, forgery and spamming under Pakistan’s cyber laws

A Lahore court has extended the physical remand of YouTuber Saad ur Rehman, popularly known as Ducky Bhai, by an additional four days as the investigation into his alleged promotion of illegal online gambling platforms continues, Dialogue Pakistan reported.

Rehman, who was arrested on 17 August at Allama Iqbal International Airport while attempting to leave the country, was produced before a judicial magistrate on Thursday. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency requested further time to probe the case, which the court granted despite opposition from the defence.

The case, registered by the NCCIA in Lahore, invokes multiple provisions from the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, including charges of electronic forgery, fraud, spamming and spoofing. It also includes sections from the Pakistan Penal Code related to cheating and unlawful prize offerings.

Good to know: Ducky Bhai was previously remanded for two days following his arrest, during which authorities reportedly uncovered evidence of suspicious financial transactions and promotional activity

Rehman’s name was added to the Provisional National Identification List after he failed to respond to an earlier summons. During his arrest, officials claimed to have retrieved communications and documents linking him to one of the platforms in a managerial role.

The next hearing is scheduled for 1 September, when the NCCIA is expected to present further findings as part of its ongoing investigation into the case.
