Memorandum of Understanding agreed between MGA and AGCO

The two gaming regulators teamed up in a trans-continental collaboration.

Memorandum of Understanding agreed between MGA and AGCO

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has announced that it has entered a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), furthering the depth of their continuous relationship.

A Memorandum of Understanding is a non-legally binding document drawn up to signify the intent of collaborative progression within a pre-existing contract. Despite existing within jurisdictions, and indeed continents, separated by the Atlantic, the two regulators have formed a now long-standing partnership thanks to their shared ideals and objectives.

The aim of the MoU is to further solidify the two’s pre-existing relationship, which entails mutual assistance at an operational level, as well as the exchange of the two’s respective regulatory information and knowledge.

Earlier this week, Swintt gained approval from the AGCO to operate within the Canadian province of Ontario, marking its North American debut. This development comes soon after the decision was reached by the AGCO to ban WBA boxing bets in the province, due to concerns related to insider betting and match-fixing.

For the MGA, this latest collaborative news follows the Gaming Regulators European Forum 2024, which was hosted by the Maltese regulatory body.

Commenting on the MoU with AGCO, MGA CEO Charles Mizzi said: “Our ongoing collaboration with AGCO has yielded tangible results in the past and through this MoU we are committed to further bolstering our inter-jurisdictional relationship. Our focus remains on fostering the exchange of information, with the overarching goal of improving our regulatory practices and addressing mutual challenges effectively.”
