BetBlocker introduces Italian language support for gambling blocker

The self-exclusion tool expands its multilingual offering, providing gambling harm reduction resources to Italian-speaking users.

BetBlocker introduces Italian language support for gambling blocker

Key points:

– BetBlocker has launched an Italian version of its blocking software to increase accessibility

– The initiative follows previous expansions into African languages, including Bemba, Nyanja and Tonga

– The translation was completed voluntarily by Safer Gambling Analyst Francesco Casartelli

BetBlocker has expanded its responsible gambling software to include an Italian-language version, marking the latest step in its efforts to make self-exclusion tools available to a broader audience.

The UK-based charity, which provides free blocking software to help individuals control their gambling habits, now offers support in another widely spoken language.

Italy has a well-established gambling market and problem gambling remains a concern. A 2021 study published in Minerva Medica estimated that 3% of the Italian population could be classified as problem gamblers.

BetBlocker’s latest update aims to provide a more accessible tool for Italian-speaking users seeking assistance.

Safer Gambling Analyst Francesco Casartelli voluntarily translated the software after identifying a gap in BetBlocker’s existing language support.

Casartelli said: “As soon as I noticed that my native language was missing on the website, I could not say no to extending the protection that BetBlocker provides for free to Italian speakers. Safer gambling is founded on giving help and being able to do that makes me proud.”

BetBlocker Founder and Trustee Duncan Garvie added: “We’ve encountered some operators, regulators and charities willing to invest time to help translate BetBlocker into a new language. But rarely have we encountered a private person willing to sacrifice their own free time to help us deliver the service to a new audience.”

This development follows BetBlocker’s previous multilingual expansion in Africa, where the organisation introduced support for Bemba, Nyanja and Tonga—three of Zambia’s most widely spoken languages. That project was supported by Entain and Fresh Start Zambia, aiming to improve access to self-exclusion tools in under-served communities.

Good to know: BetBlocker has also expanded its reach within Europe. During European Safer Gambling Week 2024, the charity partnered with EveryMatrix to introduce a Maltese-language version of the tool

Additionally, in 2025, BetBlocker was named Clarion Gaming’s official charity partner, integrating responsible gambling messaging into industry events such as ICE Barcelona and iGB Live.
