- BetBlocker’s software now supports three African languages: Bemba, Nyanja and Tonga

- The initiative targets under-served markets like Zambia, where nearly 75% of the population speaks one of these languages

- The project was funded by Entain and executed in collaboration with Fresh Start Zambia

BetBlocker has announced the expansion of its blocking software to support Bemba, Nyanja and Tonga, focusing its gambling tool on the three most prominent languages spoken in Zambia.

This marks the organisation’s first initiative aimed at users in Africa, providing a critical resource to under-served communities in the region.

The project, funded by Entain, aims to address the lack of gambling harm support services in African countries compared to more developed jurisdictions.

BetBlocker collaborated with Fresh Start Zambia, a local charitable organisation, to facilitate the translation of its software into the three languages, which cover nearly three-quarters of Zambia’s population.

Duncan Garvie, BetBlocker Founder and Trustee, said: “For BetBlocker, it’s critical to be able to reach users in a language that they can comfortably engage in to ensure a smooth and speedy set-up process. Native languages also help us step past cultural barriers, showing that BetBlocker isn’t simply available to these communities; it’s actively working to support them.”

Good to know: The software is designed to allow individuals to block access to gambling sites and apps anonymously, offering a tool for those seeking control over their gambling behaviour.

The addition of these languages is expected to make the service more effective for Zambian users, ensuring that BetBlocker’s support is accessible in the nation.

This expansion follows BetBlocker’s selection as Clarion Gaming’s charity partner for 2025. The partnership will integrate responsible gambling messaging into key events like ICE Barcelona, iGB Affiliates and iGB Live.

In previous initiatives, BetBlocker collaborated with EveryMatrix during European Safer Gambling Week 2024 to launch a Maltese version of its software.
