PAGCOR issues fake website warning to operators
The website claims to issue valid licences and accreditations for the Philippine market.
Key points:
– PAGCOR has issued an official warning against the website: www.pagcorphilippines.com
– The site was set up over the weekend and is attempting to issue fake licences for the Philippine market
– The licences have been flagged due to spelling errors and forged signatures
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has issued a warning to residents and operators against a fake, PAGCOR impersonation website which claims to issue legitimate licences for the Philippine market.
After reportedly being established over the weekend – specifically Saturday 22 February – the fake site has been deemed a scam, after spelling mistakes and fake signatures were uncovered on the purported PAGCOR licences offered via the online address.
Further, as part of the recent announcement, PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco, stated: “We urge the public not to download anything or transact through the said fake website that uses the domain name www.pagcorphilippines.com because it is definitely not from PAGCOR, and all its contents are spurious.
“We have reported this incident to the Department of Information and Communications Technology. We are also working to identify the persons behind this fraud, and we shall go after them with the full force and extent of the law. It is clearly intended to fool people, particularly those who are seeking licenses to operate from PAGCOR.”
PAGCOR’s vigilance in this area displays its desire to avoid any additional incidents with illegal online perpetrators in the nation, following on from its long and arduous battle against illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs) throughout 2024. Indeed, this point of contention seemingly reached its conclusion in December, following the termination of one of its largest POGO operators.
Good to know: Last month, PAGCOR reported a 41% revenue increase year-on-year to PHP112bn (US$1.94bn) for 2024
More recently, it has been a busy month for the organisation, which celebrated the opening of a new corporate building with the San Miguel Corporation in early February. Following on from this, PAGCOR reaffirmed its support for the Special Class BPO sector last week.
