APPG launches inquiry into the future of UK gambling regulation

Key points:

– The inquiry will assess the effectiveness of the current framework and harm prevention efforts

– Public submissions are open until 12 September 2025

– A potential new Gambling Act will be considered as part of the review

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Gambling Reform has announced the launch of a wide-ranging inquiry focused on the future of gambling regulation in the United Kingdom.

The review will take into account progress made since the release of the UK Government’s White Paper and consider whether the current legal framework is fit for purpose in a digital landscape.

The inquiry comes amid continued concern over gambling-related harm and the adequacy of existing regulatory tools to protect vulnerable consumers.

The group will examine whether stronger interventions or structural reforms are required, including the potential development of a new Gambling Act.

“The previous Government’s White Paper marked a step in the right direction by beginning to address some of the challenges posed by today’s gambling industry,” stated Chair of the APPG, Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP. “However, it is clear that much more needs to be done to ensure our regulatory framework is fit for the digital age to protect people from harm.”

The group will examine whether stronger interventions or structural reforms are required, including the potential development of a new Gambling Act. To support the inquiry, the APPG is inviting written evidence from organisations and individuals.

Further details on the inquiry and submission process are available through the APPG’s official website.
