Key points:
– Namer has been appointed the ANJ’s Director of Law Enforcement
– She comes with magisterial experience
– She will head newly-formed departments within the ANj
The French National Gaming Authority (ANJ) has appointed Sophie Namer as its new Director of Law Enforcement.
Her appointment comes as the regulator shuffles internal strategy, having formed a direction of repressive action in July to more efficiently fight illegal gaming supplies and sports betting manipulation. Namer, an administrative magistrate, has thus been appointed to lead the department. She will be supported by Deputy Director Jérôme Labarbe.
Namer attended the University of Montpellier in 2013, where she received a Master’s Degree in Public Business Law, attending UVSQ University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines the year after. In 2017, she became a Magistrate at Limoges Administrative Court, working there for two years before taking on the same role at Toulouse Administrative Court, spending six years in total with the courts.
In September 2025, Namer was appointed Advisor to the Legal Affairs Department of the General Secretariat of the Ministries of Ecology, Energy, Territories and the Sea. However, she has since joined the ANJ.
Good to know: In July, the ANJ appointed Pauline Hot as its new Director General
Alongside Namer’s appointment, the ANJ is also setting up a data, markets and innovation department.
In this, Namer will monitor contracts and data exploitation, and will also manage the JONUM experiment, a legal framework designed to evaluate digital games and monetisable assets (eg NFTs) regulation. The experiment aims to aid in the development of future legal regimes.
