DraftKings has launched a new product, DK Replay, introducing “historical betting markets” based on past Major League Baseball (MLB) games.

DK Replay went live yesterday, Thursday, March 25 and is now available in Oregon after receiving approval from the Oregon Lottery. DraftKings said it is exploring additional launches, subject to regulatory approval. A DraftKings spokesperson confirmed the product is classified as sports betting.

In a press release, Corey Gottlieb, DraftKings’ Chief Product Officer, said the product offers a new experience for customers.

With DK Replay, we’re able to offer an experience that will allow customers to enjoy their favorite sports no matter the time of year.”

How DK Replay Works

DK Replay is available through the DraftKings Sportsbook app in Oregon.

Users are presented with an anonymized pitcher-versus-batter matchup. Each player is assigned a bronze, silver, or gold rating based on key stats from the original game. That includes batting average, slugging percentage, ERA, and strikeouts per nine innings. The stats allow users to assess the matchup.

Bettors can place wagers within a pitch clock window on whether the next pitch will be a ball, strike, or in-play. A pitch is then animated, and the historical result determines the outcome; if it matches the selected option, the wager wins.

If no wager is placed before the clock expires, the full details of the matchup are revealed, including a recap of the original plate appearance, with the date, pitcher, and batter.

The dataset spans hundreds of thousands of historical plate appearances, enabling a continuous stream of betting opportunities regardless of the live sports calendar.

Part of DraftKings’ ‘Super App’ Strategy

DK Replay arrives amid DraftKings’ broader efforts toward its all-in-one “Super App”, an integrated platform that will include online sports betting, prediction markets, casino, and lottery products. DraftKings recently sent an email to customers letting them know that the DK Horse app will also be integrated into the core app.

The “Super App” goal is to increase engagement and cross-sell across verticals. DraftKings aims to keep users within its integrated app across multiple forms of wagering.

Within that framework, DK Replay adds a new layer of continuous, in-app betting content.

Similar to Hard Rock’s Florida Historical Betting Model

DraftKings is not the first operator to introduce a product similar to historical horse racing (HHR) machines.

In October 2025, Hard Rock Bet introduced “Real Money Games powered by Past Motor Racing”in Florida. The product, also integrated into the sports betting app, allows users to bet on games that visually resemble slots, including spinning reels, symbols, and themed animations, while tying the outcomes to historical NASCAR events rather than random number generation.

The gameplay involves selecting the finishing order of the top four drivers in three past races. Payouts are determined by the accuracy of the selections and the statistical likelihood of each driver finishing in that position.

Key Differences in Approach

While both products rely on historical data, their structure and positioning differ:

  • DK Replay (DraftKings): Designed as a sports betting product, focused on microbet-style wagers tied to pitch-by-pitch MLB outcomes. The gameplay is designed to resemble live betting.
  • Hard Rock “Past Motor Races”: Designed to deliver a casino-style experience, featuring slot-like, rapid-cycle gameplay using racing data.

In effect, DraftKings leans into a sports simulation model. Meanwhile, Hard Rock’s product functions closer to a casino-style experience built on sports data.

Regulatory and Market Implications

The emergence of historical betting products raises new regulatory considerations.

Because outcomes are predetermined by past events and revealed only after wagers are placed, these products could sit in a regulatory gray area between traditional sports betting and casino-style or game-based wagering.

Some users have raised questions and confusion about how Hard Rock’s Florida product determines and presents outcomes, particularly in the absence of traditional random-number generator mechanics used in casino games.

While Hard Rock Bet has not rolled the product outside Florida, DraftKings indicates that a broader expansion is possible.

DK Replay could face questions in other jurisdictions regarding classification, particularly given its anonymized presentation, continuous gameplay loop, and predetermined outcomes.

DraftKings said the product is classified as sports betting in Oregon. Its expansion into other jurisdictions, though, may depend on how regulators interpret this emerging format.

Both DK Replay and Hard Rock’s Florida product have launched in single-operator markets, where one licensed platform controls online sports betting. That structure may provide a more controlled environment for introducing new betting formats before broader expansion.

For now, Oregon provides a controlled launch market, but broader rollout could hinge on how regulators approach this category.
