An amendment to Kansas’ Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Class III gaming compact has received approval in accordance with the Federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

This now allows Prairie Band Casino & Resort to move forward with launching sports betting in Kansas this year.

Joseph Rupnick, the Tribal Council Chairman, commented on the decision: “To be honest with you, it was a quite cumbersome process and I didn’t think it was going to get it done this year.

"But thanks to the Governor’s staff, their leadership, along with the leadership of the elected members of the House and Senate, we were able to get this done.”

Sports betting in Kansas was only legalised in September 2022 and negotiations with Prairie Band Casino & Resort were started soon after.

According to Rupnick, a launch could take place in Q4 or sooner – though this is just speculation at the current time.

Another goal of Prairie Band is to have its own dedicated app for customers to use.

Rupnick further stated: “Initially, we were going to have a sports betting room located in the casino – and now our hope is going to be to offer up a mobile app.”

The Tribe's reservation is the only place where sports wagering is authorised as the other Tribes with casinos must renegotiate their compacts.
