Betsson secures sports betting licence in France

Betsson’s entry into the French market has been confirmed with the brand being granted a sports betting licence.

The company’s entry into France is the result of a joint venture with a local partner, where Betsson’s French sportsbook will leverage Sportradar’s technology.

Nadir Ounissi, Partner of Betsson France SA, states: “We have been following the development in the French market for some time and felt we could contribute positively by introducing a different product dimension and player communication. We are collaborating with experienced partners who have given us remarkable support, energy and creativity throughout this journey.

“I feel that we have assembled a team of seasoned professionals that are able to position betsson.fr to succeed in this locally regulated market. Our product and content are tailored to recreational players and we genuinely look forward to offering our betting experience to French players”.

The French regulated gambling market saw a 4% increase in the first half of 2023, with total gross gaming revenue (GGR) reaching €5.35bn ($5.63bn). The market is largely dominated by FDJ and PMU, which account for 78% of the GGR.

In Betsson Group’s Q2 report for 2023, the company reached a 27% rise in revenue, totalling €236.8m.

Earlier this year, Betsson Group extended its partnership with Pragmatic Play, where it provided live casino content to its Swedish operator, Jalla Casino.

In August 2023, Betsson Group launched its flagship brand in Denmark. This move involved rebranding Casino.dk into Betsson.dk.
