Joe Maloney, the former VP, Public Affairs and Strategic Communications for the Washington Commanders, will be joining the American Gaming Association (AGA) in January as the new SVP, Strategic Communications. The position will see Maloney leading communications, marketing and public affairs campaigns to serve the needs of AGA members.
The role is not new to Maloney, as he has spent three years with the American football team the Washington Commanders as its VP, Public Affairs and Strategic Communications.
In this role, he has guided the team’s external engagement with corporate initiatives and policies while also creating engagement between the region’s businesses, communities and leaders and the Commanders.
Examples of this include Maloney’s previous guiding of the Commanders' advocacy for sports betting in Maryland, which led to a partnership with Fanatics and similar advocacy in Virginia, which allowed the Commanders to partner with FanDuel.
Previous positions also include being a partner with public affairs agency Locust Street Group, where he led agency work with AGA and G2E.
AGA President and CEO Bill Miller said: “Joe is an accomplished professional who has taken on significant public affairs challenges throughout his career. We will benefit not only from his depth of experience and his tireless advocacy but his enthusiasm and energy to hit the ground running as a champion for the casino gaming industry.”
“I’m honored to join the AGA and its dedicated team at this pivotal moment for the gaming industry,” said Maloney.
