Churchill Downs has extended its partnership with NBC Sports.

NBC Sports will have the rights to the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Oaks, and Derby and Oaks Day.

These races will then be shown across NBC, Peacock, USA Network and additional NBCU platforms.

Churchill Downs CEO, Bill Carstanjen, said: “As we celebrate the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs is proud to extend the relationship with NBC Sports.

“As our media partner for the last 23 years, NBC has artfully captured the most exciting two minutes in sports and the spectacle of the senses that surrounds it.”

The multiplatform streaming deal will last until 2032 unless it is renewed or extended again.

NBC Sports President, Rick Cordella, said: “Telling the rich stories surrounding the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May is part of the fabric of NBC Sports, and we are thrilled to continue that tradition with Churchill Downs.

“We look forward to surrounding the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby with wall-to-wall coverage and extensive promotion on the platforms of NBCUniversal.”

According to local reports, the 150th Kentucky Derby was the most watched since 1989 and attracted 16.7 million viewers.

Of course, this marks the first Kentucky Derby since sports betting was legalised in the state last August.

Churchill Downs reported that $210.7m was wagered on Mystik Dan to win, who had odds of 18-1 and was widely considered an underdog.

In its most recent fiscal report, Churchill Downs reported $590.9m in revenue for Q1 2024.
