Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said all illegal advertisements promoting online gaming and gambling from Sri Lankan casinos will be removed from the state.

“Our advertising policy will be finalised soon, and we will act with police and the home department (to ensure compliance)," Sawant was quoted as saying by various Indian news sources.

"In the first phase, we will shut down or break the hoardings (referring to said illegal advertisements, majority being billboard type advertisements). We will not allow such advertising. The Government is not earning anything from it.”

Porvorim police will register an FIR in relation to the advertisements found on the Mandovi banks.

The issue was earlier raised by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, claiming that it has made an official complaint to the home undersecretary, but that nothing was done then to address the issue.

“We sent a reminder in Oct 2022. He sent a letter to the DGP to take action. The DGP told him there are two hoardings, but said casinos are not mentioned on them. But the hoardings had images such as playing cards,” Sardesai said, adding that the illegal advertisements are appearing again along the routes to Mopa and Dabolim airports.

Illegal gambling advertisements were also a current issue in Australia, as the ACMA recently dealt with a major case involving Kayo, owned by Hubbl.

In regards to recent news on India’s online gaming sector, BigCash, an Indian online gaming company, has embarked on a global expansion initiative, starting with its launch in Brazil.
