Gambling harm prevention organisation, BetBlocker, has revealed the latest update to its blocking software in the form of a Portuguese version of the application.
The software, which offers a free and anonymous support tool for any players who may be struggling with problem gambling issues, has now been launched in Portuguese – as BetBlocker hopes to appeal to the 200+ million native speakers of the language globally.
It was a busy summer for BetBlocker this year, which entered into data-based and responsible gaming collaborations with Blask and Stake in June, as well as Casino.Guru in July. More recently, however, the charity received a support pledge from Aristocrat.
Commenting on this latest update, BetBlocker Founder and Trustee, Duncan Garvie, said: “BetBlocker is the only free and anonymous to use blocking software. Users can go from download to blocked in less than two minutes. But only if they understand the set-up instructions.
"The truth is that most of the people who need BetBlocker’s support are in a state of crisis. They are not able to think clearly and trying to set up a tool like BetBlocker, with instructions that they either don’t or only partially understand, presents a significant barrier to accessing that support. Each time we launch BetBlocker in a new language we see user engagement in the language jump by between 4-10x.”
The announcement of the Portuguese iteration of BetBlocker’s blocking software is timely, as it comes mere months before the opening of Brazil’s online gaming and sports betting market, opening the software up to a population of 212.6 million Portuguese speakers in the nation.
