International Game Technology (IGT) has announced a 10-year contract extension with the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL), solidifying their longstanding partnership that began in 2006.

The new agreement, set to commence on 1 July 2027 and run through until June 2037, will mark a notable upgrade in lottery technology and services for the state.

Under the terms of the contract, IGT will implement its Aurora central system, a key component of the company’s integrated lottery solution, Omnia. This advancement will be complemented by the deployment of upgraded Wizard back-office business applications which aim to boost the lottery’s operational efficiency.

The agreement also includes a hardware upgrade, with IGT set to provide up to 8,500 newly launched Retailer Pro S2 terminals, 28 self-service vending machines, 2,000 lottery play centres and 4,000 Jackpot signs.

Additionally, a dual cellular communication network will be implemented to ensure reliable connectivity.

Commenting on the deal, Mark Michalko, CEO and Executive Director of the NCEL, stated: “IGT has been a trusted partner to the NCEL for more than 18 years, supporting our consistent growth and record-breaking sales.

“Supporting public education is our mission, and we now raise more than $1bn a year for our state. We look forward to extending our strong relationship with IGT. The new technology that IGT will provide will help the lottery continue to responsibly increase sales and our contributions to North Carolina.”

Jay Gendron, IGT’s COO of Global Lottery, added: “The NCEL is among the top 10 most successful lotteries in the US, and IGT is excited to upgrade its retail technology with our high-performing solutions and help it drive sales growth.

“IGT’s future-forward technology will provide the systems and equipment needed for the NCEL to work effectively and efficiently for its players, its retail partners and the good causes it serves.”

In related news, it was also recently revealed that IGT has secured a three-year instant ticket contract with Portugal’s national lottery – another deal that marked an extension of a longstanding partnership.
