William Hill new sponsor of Cheltenham Festival County Handicap Hurdle
The Cheltenham Festival might be 140 days away, but the season officially kicks off this weekend with The Showcase event.
Key points:
– The William Hill County Handicap Hurdle will be on Friday 14 March 2025, Gold Cup Day
– This weekend, William Hill will put its name to five races at Cheltenham’s opening meeting of the season, The Showcase
– William Hill is also the Official Betting Partner of the Randox Grand National Festival at Aintree and the sponsor of the Grade One Formby Novices’ Hurdle at the Merseyside venue on Boxing Day
William Hill has secured another sponsorship during The Cheltenham Festival, this time in the form of the William Hill County Handicap Hurdle.
The horseracing festival, which is due to run from 11 March to 14 March 2025, is one of the biggest meets in the UK calendar and the William Hill County Handicap Hurdle will be held on the final, most competitive day of the event, Gold Cup Day.
Dan Glavin, Bookmaker Partnerships Manager at The Jockey Club, said: “It is fantastic to welcome back such a famous brand as William Hill to sponsorship at The Cheltenham Festival.
“We extend our thanks to William Hill for its generous support, including the sponsorship of the County Hurdle and throughout the season, starting on Friday at The Showcase.”
This Saturday, 26 October, the bookmaker will kick off celebrations with William Hill Showcase Saturday from 11:30am to 12:05pm at The Centaur, where hosts will talk through the cards and pick the ones to watch.
Good to know: No horse has won the County Hurdle twice since 1946
A total of five races at The Showcase meet this weekend will have the William Hill name attached to them.
Daryl West, William Hill’s Head of Media and Sponsorship, said; “As William Hill celebrates over 90 years in the industry we’re embracing our heritage and being part of horse racing’s biggest days is something we’ve done throughout our history.
“Racedays don’t come much bigger than Gold Cup Day, so we’re delighted to be a part of it and back at the Cheltenham Festival in 2025.
“The County Hurdle is always a great betting heat and we’ve seen some incredible hurdlers use it as a springboard to greatness.”
A few weeks ago, The Jockey Club published a list of changes that will affect the race programme, ticket prices and venue of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.
