Betfred extends World Matchplay sponsorship through 2030
The agreement extends the operator's association with the darts event beyond a decade, with the announcement coming on the eve of the 2025 tournament beginning in Blackpool.
Key points:
– Betfred extends title sponsorship of PDC World Matchplay events until 2030
– Luke Humphries and Beau Greaves return as defending champions for the 2025 tournament
Betfred has confirmed a five-year extension of its title sponsorship of the World Matchplay and Women’s World Matchplay darts tournaments, ensuring its association with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) summer events will continue through at least 2030.
The renewed partnership, announced just ahead of the 2025 tournament’s start in Blackpool, represents over a decade of collaboration between Betfred and the PDC.
Betfred first became title sponsor in 2019, and the Women’s World Matchplay has been part of the sponsorship portfolio since its launch in 2022.
This year’s Betfred World Matchplay features defending champion and world number one Luke Humphries, alongside a competitive 32-player lineup, which includes six former champions and current World Champion Luke Littler.
Meanwhile, Beau Greaves is set to defend her Women’s World Matchplay title on Sunday, 27 July.
Commenting on the development, Fred Done, Founder of Betfred, stated: “The Betfred World Matchplay is one of the highlights of the year – I love the seaside party atmosphere coupled with top quality sport.”We’re delighted to extend our sponsorship with the PDC for another five years, during an exciting period for darts as a sport. The quality of the field has never been stronger, and we can only see these tournaments continuing to grow in the coming years.”
Good to know: Prize money will increase from 2026, with the World Matchplay prize fund rising to £1m ($1.35m) and the Women’s World Matchplay growing to £40,000
PDC CEO Matt Porter added: “Betfred have become synonymous with the World Matchplay since joining us as title sponsor in 2019, and it’s wonderful that they’ve extended that support for a further five years.”Their backing of the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay echoes their commitment to the sport, and we’re excited that prize money for both events will increase from 2026.”This year’s Betfred World Matchplay sold out in record time following the huge success of our 2024 tournament, and we can’t wait to get back to Blackpool alongside Betfred next week.”
