Jamul Casino Resort hotel opens, adding 200-room tower to tribal property near San Diego

Key points:

– 16-storey, 200-room hotel opens adjacent to Jamul Casino in California

– Project includes rooftop pool deck, spa, restaurant and climate-controlled skybridge

– Development builds on 2016 casino opening and $515m funding package secured in 2023

Jamul Casino Resort has officially opened its new 16-storey hotel tower, marking a major expansion for the tribal property located just east of downtown San Diego.

The 253,951-square-foot hotel, constructed by CW Driver Companies, connects to the existing casino via a climate-controlled pedestrian skybridge.

The property features 148 standard rooms and 52 suites, alongside amenities including an 11,000-square-foot rooftop pool deck, a full-service spa and salon, a fitness centre, retail space, meeting and banquet facilities and a 4,800-square-foot restaurant.

Good to know: Jamul Casino is owned by the Jamul Indian Village and features over 1,500 slot machines, 46 live table games and a poker room

Keith Kauffman, Project Executive at CW Driver Companies, said: “After successfully completing the Jamul Casino in 2016, it is a privilege to continue our relationship with Jamul Indian Village and bring this high-end hotel to life.”

The development required the relocation of the Tribal administration building and demolition of the Community Centre to accommodate the new structure. Construction was carried out while keeping the casino fully operational.

Erica M Pinto, Chairwoman of the Jamul Indian Village, commented: “This hotel represents more than growth; it’s a meaningful step in creating lasting opportunities for our Tribal community and welcoming guests into the heart of who we are.”

Mary Cheeks, President and GM of Jamul Casino Resort, added: “This new hotel is a key step in transforming us into a true destination – offering an immersive experience that will keep guests returning again and again.”

The hotel project follows a July 2024 topping-off ceremony, which marked the placement of the final beam and included a traditional blessing by Tribal Elder Kenny Meza.

In April 2023, the Jamul Indian Village Development Corporation secured $515m in funding, facilitated by KeyBanc Capital Markets and other lenders, to finance the hotel and other projects aimed at enhancing economic self-sufficiency for the Tribe.
