West End penalised for breach of Danish gambling law

Key points:

– West End has accepted a fine following a breach of Danish gambling legislation

– The incident involved offering unlicensed gaming between 27 – 31 January 2025

West End has accepted a fine of DKK 6,928 ($1,100) for breaching Danish gambling legislation. The fine was imposed following an investigation by the Danish Gambling Authority.

Fines such as this serve as a reminder that regulatory compliance is mandatory for all gambling operators.

The breach, which occurred at West End’s premises on Brårupgade 6, 7800 Skive, involved offering gambling on gaming machines without the necessary licence. The activity took place between 27 – 31 January 2025.

Under section 59(1) of the Gambling Act cf. section 3(1), all operators are required to obtain a licence before providing gambling services. Failure to comply can result in fines or other enforcement actions.

West End has acknowledged the breach and agreed to pay the fine, demonstrating the operator’s willingness to cooperate with regulatory authorities. The Danish Gambling Authority continues to monitor compliance across all licensed operators to ensure a fair and secure gambling environment.

Good to know: The Danish Gambling Act requires all gaming operations to be licensed and monitored for consumer protection

The aim of the Danish Gambling Authority is to ensure a safe, fair and legal gambling environment by preventing unlicensed activity.

In March, the Danish Gambling Authority intensified enforcement, partnering with Twitch and monitoring Robux betting to curb illegal gambling, particularly targeting underage players on unlicensed platforms.

In June, the Danish Gambling Authority broke records by blocking 178 illegal gambling sites, targeting platforms offering Danish language, currency or payment options, reinforcing its mission to protect players and uphold compliance with Denmark’s gambling regulations.
