KSA fines influencers for illegal provider videos
Stiefunspeelt, Turcos and Buurtwachtt were subject to warnings and penalties.
Key points:
– Three influencers – Stiefunspeelt, Turcos and Buurtwachtt – have received penalties from the KSA
– The three posted videos of illegal providers, encouraging viewers to engage with them.
The Dutch gaming regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has fined three influencers for posting videos to social media showing players betting with illegal providers.
The influencers – Stiefunspeelt, Turcos and Buurtwachtt – also encouraged players to engage with the platforms. It is not a first-time offence for any of the three influencers listed.
Stiefunspeelt, Turcos and Buurtwachtt have been given 48 hours to remove the content. If new content promoting illegal operators returns, the influencers may be subject to fines of €25,000 ($29,364), to a max of €75,000.
Illegal gaming has been a critical point to tackle for the KSA in recent months, after a report in July found 93% of players play exclusively with legal providers. Issues such as rising gaming tax have, in part, explained the shift in market landscape, with the Dutch Lottery warning of such a result earlier this month.
Good to know: This is not the first time the KSA has fined an online influencer for encouraging illegal gaming. YouTube influencer LeftlanePapi was dealt a similar fate in July
Elsewhere, the KSA has launched an investigation into the techniques used by operators to influence player behaviour. The investigation, announced last week, will look into the various tactics used and assess whether they are positive or negative, and whether negative tactics pose a danger to players or break duty of care rules.
KSA Chairman Michel Groothuizen said: “At the KSA, we understand that online providers, like other commercial companies, monitor what users do on their platforms and how they can influence that to their advantage.”
