To offer counselling and therapy services to address addiction, gaming company BetPawa has partnered with counselling facility Baks-Calmare Enclave Foundation.
The Baks Foundation has been in existence since 2018, receiving official recognition as a foundation for mental healthcare in 2022.
The foundation's main clients are young people and it provides them with counselling services for excessive gambling brought on by social and psychological issues. The foundation's counselling services will be funded by BetPawa.
The Ghana Gaming Commission launched a Responsible Gaming Call Centre last year with the use of IT technology donated by BetPawa.
Kweku Asenso Brobbey, Baks Foundation’s Head Business Developer, said: “The collaboration with betPawa to help persons addicted to gambling is a first in the country and places betPawa as a foremost socially responsible organisation.
“Aside from the problem gambling counselling services, the support by betPawa to the foundation gives people in Ghana an opportunity to benefit from other psychosocial support services. This is crucial because such services cost a lot of money to access.”
Meanwhile, in May, player protection software companies Mindway AI and AnonyMind joined forces to aid problem gamblers.
Through this collaboration, the aim is for at-risk players and gambling addiction to be identified and addressed as part of a new integrated strategy.
AnonyMind pairs people with the appropriate therapist, who will customise the treatment using a ‘clinical formulation’ to address the client's needs.
