A subsidiary of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), iGaming Ontario, has appointed Heidi Reinhart as its new Chair.

Prior to her appointment, Reinhart served as the Vice Chair of AGCO since October 2020.

She is also a Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, where she’s practised corporate law since September 2006.

While there, Reinhart has also become a member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Securities Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Toronto Stock Exchange Listing Advisory Committee.

She has also been a board member non-profit organisation, Volunteer Toronto, as well as been a volunteer herself at the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society, the Hospital for Sick Children and as a caseworker and group advisor at Community Legal Aid in Windsor.

She is a former member of the Ontario Business Law Modernization and Burden Reduction Council.

Reinhart will succeed Dave Forestell, the inaugural Chair of iGaming Ontario who took the role in July 2021.

Forestell oversaw all operations of iGaming Ontario, especially during the busy period following the first Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act Bill C-218 that passed on 22 June 2021, allowing single-game sports betting in Ontario.

Legalised sports betting then launched on 4 April, 2022 with an initial amount of 13 sportsbooks going live on the market, including bet365, 888 and Unibet.

After stepping down from the iGaming Ontario Board, Forestell has accepted an appointment to become the Chair of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

In the announcement, the company said: “iGaming Ontario welcomes Ms Reinhart and extends a sincere thank you to Mr. Forestell for his leadership of this agency from its inception.”

Last month, AGCO issued CA$70,000 (US$51,717) in penalties to operators in Canada for alleged violations of the Registrar's Standards for iGaming.
