Key points:
- BoyleSports raised £7,300 during the World Grand Prix with a pledge for every double 20 hit
- The total donation was increased to £10,000 to support Bipolar UK, chosen by darts player James Wade
- Mike De Decker won the tournament, with his final double 20 being the 365th hit
BoyleSports has donated £10,000 ($13,000) to Bipolar UK, exceeding the original amount raised during the BoyleSports World Grand Prix darts tournament.
The donation comes after BoyleSports pledged £20 for every double 20 hit throughout the competition, which took place at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester.
The tournament saw a total of 365 double 20s, including the winning dart by Mike De Decker in Sunday’s final, where he defeated Luke Humphries 6-4. This resulted in an initial amount of £7,300 being raised.
BoyleSports then decided to boost the donation to £10,000 to further support Bipolar UK – a charity that was chosen by darts player James Wade, who is an ambassador for the organisation.
Commenting on the donation, Wade – who finished the tournament with 40 double 20 hits during his quarter-final run – stated: “This is a fantastic gesture by BoyleSports and on behalf of Bipolar UK I’d like to thank them for their generosity.
“This donation will help to make a difference with the valuable work they do and the support that they provide to people with bipolar.
“I’d have loved to have won the BoyleSports World Grand Prix last week, but it’s a nice way to remember the tournament that my double 20s have been able to help in this way.”
Sharon McHugh, Head of PR and Sponsorship for BoyleSports, added: “We are proud to support Bipolar UK with this £10,000 donation, helping to advance their vital work in supporting individuals affected by the condition.
“Mental health is an issue that touches many lives and we hope this contribution furthers their mission to make a meaningful impact on awareness and support.”
