BoyleSports, sponsor of the Professional Darts Corporation's World Grand Prix, has launched a new charity challenge for this year's tournament.
The 'D20 for £20' Charity Challenge will see BoyleSports donate £20 ($26.78) for every double 20 hit during the week-long event, scheduled from 7-13 October at Leicester's Mattioli Arena.
The double-start format of the BoyleSports World Grand Prix, which requires players to both begin and end each leg with a double, makes this tournament particularly suitable for such an initiative. The double 20, often referred to as 'double top', is a frequent target for players aiming to maximize their scoring potential.
Commenting on the new initiative, Sharon McHugh, Head of PR and Sponsorship for BoyleSports, stated: “We’re delighted to introduce our ‘D20 for £20’ Charity Challenge at this year’s BoyleSports World Grand Prix, which is always one of the most thrilling events on the darts calendar.
“The unique double-in format makes it a perfect stage to bring awareness to a range of charitable causes and we can’t wait to see which player hits the most Double 20s and the positive impact it will have on their chosen charity.”
PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter added: "BoyleSports are always supportive of charities during the World Grand Prix and this is an innovative way for our players to support their chosen charity at this year's event."
The player who hits the most double 20s throughout the tournament will have the privilege of choosing the beneficiary charity for the accumulated donation.
Some players have designated their preferred charities already. Defending champion Luke Humphries, for example, has selected Prostate Cancer UK as his chosen charity, while six-time champion Michael van Gerwen has nominated the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
