The 246th running of the Betfred Derby at Epsom Downs is set to reach a record-breaking international audience, with 41 broadcasters confirmed to air the event across 170 countries.
This year’s race marks a milestone in global horseracing coverage, with Racecourse Media Group (RMG) and HBA Media securing a wide range of broadcast partners in collaboration with The Jockey Club.
The list of broadcasters includes major networks such as ESPN/Disney+ in Latin America and the Caribbean, SuperSport in Africa and FanDuel in the US.
New additions this year include FanCode in India, D-Smart in Turkey and Sportsnet in Canada, broadening the event’s reach in emerging betting markets.
Hong Kong viewers will also be able to watch via HKJC TV and others, thanks to the race’s inclusion in the World Pool simulcast schedule.
Commenting on the development, Jim Allen, General Manager of Epsom Downs Racecourse, stated: “The ability to watch the world’s most famous Flat race on a screen can be traced back to 1896, when the Derby became the first horse race to be filmed, and was shown in cinemas after the event. Then in 1931, the Derby became the first horse race to be televised live.
“Nearly a century on, we now have over 40 broadcasters, ranging from mainstream TV channels to dedicated sports and horseracing channels, and from news organisations to TV magazine programme makers, all of whom will showcase the Betfred Derby to a worldwide audience, who consume their media in many, varied ways.
“Many thanks to RMG and HBA Media for securing a record number of broadcasters, which befits the status of this great race.”
Good to know: The race’s international presence will also extend to air and sea, with Sport 24 and Anuvu broadcasting to airlines and cruise ships
In the UK and Ireland, Racing TV will air the event in over 12,000 pubs and clubs, while BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT will provide extensive radio coverage.
The broadcast options include a full World Feed and a shorter Crown Jewels Racing programme, hosted by Aly Vance, offering flexible formats for different audiences.
