PrizePicks appoints Todd Grossman as Director of Gaming Regulatory Compliance

Key points:

– PrizePicks has appointed Todd Grossman as Director of Gaming Regulatory Compliance

– Grossman spent almost 13 years working with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, with five years as General Counsel and Interim Executive Director

Daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator PrizePicks has announced the appointment of Todd Grossman as its new Director of Gaming Regulatory Compliance. The move comes as part of the operator’s US expansion efforts and during a time in the US when grey markets – which also include sweepstakes and highly controversial predictors – have become a significant talking point.

Grossman comes to the role with 25 years of experience in the legal sector, beginning his career in 2000 as an Assistant District Attorney at Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. In May 2005 he was appointed as an Associate at Morrison Mahoney LLP and in 2006 joined the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety as Deputy General Counsel.

Grossman made his first step into the gaming industry in 2012 as Deputy General Counsel for the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. Over the next almost 13 years, he would climb the ranks to eventually become General Counsel and Interim Executive Director, taking the role in August 2020.

Now, with his experience in developing gaming, racing and sports betting regulation in The Bay State, Grossman will aid PrizePicks in its oversight, licensing and public policy endeavours.

Good to know: In March, PrizePicks became the first DFS operator to achieve iCAP certification

On LinkedIn, Grossman said: “After an unforgettable chapter in public service, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined PrizePicks as Director of Gaming Regulatory Compliance. “From day one, the welcome has been warm, the energy high and the company’s commitment to building something truly exceptional has been unmistakable. It’s been great to see up close how sharp, focused and values-driven this team is; committed to doing things the right way while pushing innovation in this dynamic space.

“As Ray Kroc said, “None of us is as good as all of us.” That spirit: Of collaboration, integrity and shared success is something I’ve already seen across the board at PrizePicks.  “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of this exciting journey and contribute to what’s ahead.”

This is not the first instance of a grey market operator in the US hiring a regulator veteran to their team. Earlier this year, Kalshi, a major predictors market player, hired former American Gaming Association SVP Sara Slane as Head of Corporate Development. Slane said she was “thrilled to be working towards a future where all of the operators have prediction markets as part of their product.” Slane later appeared on an episode of The Huddle.
