DigiPlus sets plans to enter South Africa
Expansion follows Brazil launch as part of global growth roadmap.
Key points:
– DigiPlus to apply for three licences in South Africa
– South African online betting sector valued at R28.97bn (US$1.6bn)
– Local legal entity to be established for compliance
DigiPlus Interactive Corp. has announced plans to expand into South Africa, marking its latest move in a global expansion strategy that already includes Southeast Asia and Latin America.
The operator will enter one of Africa’s most developed online gambling markets, where digital sports betting now contributes nearly half of the total gaming revenue.
The firm is preparing to submit applications for a National Manufacturer License, Bookmaker License and Bookmaker Premises License through the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB), widely regarded for its regulatory clarity and digital infrastructure.
Probity checks for the company and its ultimate beneficial owners are a prerequisite, with final licence approval and platform testing expected to take at least six months.
In preparation for market entry, DigiPlus is setting up a local legal entity, aligning with requirements that permit foreign ownership and directorship. Key employee licences will also be secured to support operations and regulatory oversight.
Good to know: South Africa’s Remote Gambling Bill, currently under discussion, may pave the way for legalisation of additional online formats, including casino-style offerings
South Africa’s online betting market, worth over R28.97bn in 2023 and 2024, is projected to grow by up to 5% annually. This growth is driven by increased smartphone usage, high internet engagement and sustained demand for live sports betting.
This move follows the company’s recent announcement that it will enter the Brazilian market in September 2025
DigiPlus is positioning itself as a digital entertainment player focused on regulated, high-growth regions with significant mobile penetration and strong sports culture.
DigiPlus was a joint winner at this year’s Global Gaming Awards Asia-Pacific, tying with Casino Plus in the Digital Operator of the Year category.
